1. Captain Wilkie is their main captain but he got shot in the legs so now they have Sergeant Hanley. Sergeant Hanley is a really mean person nobody really likes him.
ReplyDelete2. No the war doesn’t sound very good or pleasant for the soldiers. I know this because a bunch of bad stuff happens to them like shooting, killing, poisonous gas, ETC….
3. The problems in the trench are that it is super cold and wet and sometimes you can get trench foot also when the poisonous gas comes it leaks into the trench because it dips down, and you’re always wet.
4. A person who reminds me of someone is my friend Olivia[she goes to a different school]. Olivia reminds me of my friend Jaime. Olivia reminds me of Jaime because she likes video games, they both are really exciting and shy at the same time, and they both like to sleep.

1. Captain Willkie was Tommo and Charlie’s old Captain (the nicer Captain).Sergeant Hanley is Tommo’s new Sergeant because Captain Willkie got injured when some of the soldiers went to catch a German prisoner.
ReplyDelete2. The war is going well for the soldiers because they have chased back the German’s twice. The bad thing is that the Germans always come when they least expect them. I know that the soldiers are doing okay because they have not lost the war but they are pulling more men from the cities to become soldiers. Another bad thing is that lots of the soldiers are dying, getting injured or getting lice and different illnesses like trench foot.
3. The problems in the trenches that lots of soldiers are getting trench foot from the cold weather and the water, and that the Germans come and corner them. That’s a good reason for them to make their trenches wavier.
4. Sometimes my best friend Jayda reminds me of my other best friend Tyler because they both have great personalities, their parents are both separated, and they are both mixed (Asian).I always have a great time hanging out with both of them .

1. I am not entirely sure who Captain Wilkie or Sergeant Hanley are. Because the story does not interest me very much, I read my own books or draw. But, if I’m not mistaken Captain Wilkie was nicer and more cheerful than Sergeant Hanley. Sergeant Hanley was rude, and he would always bully Tommo and Charlie.
ReplyDelete2. Like I had said, I’m not entirely sure what’s always going on in the book. How well was the war going for the soldiers? Well I think there’s always something going well and going bad, so it could be 50/50.
3. Problems that were in the trenches are that there were rats, trench foot, and lice. Imagine living in that! And imagine sleeping as well, there’d be rats crawling all over you, lice getting to you, and I’m not quite too sure what trench foot is, but I assume it’s not very fun.
4. Nobody has really ever reminded me of someone. I do have one friend though named Amelia, and she reminds me of my two favorite YouTubers. She always makes me smile and laugh. And whenever I feel down I go to her. But if we were talking about the YouTubers, it’d be I’d always watch their videos if I needed to smile or laugh.

1) Captain Wilkie was Tommo’s captain but he was different because he was not as mean as sergeant horrible Henry in a way that he is not pushing them as much.
ReplyDelete2) Yes the war is going pretty well because they counter attacked Germany but is still a challenge for the soldiers because of tear gas/mustard gas.
3) The problem in the trenches was that they were flooding and their heads were visible and if your head is above the trench then it makes you vulnerable to bullets.
4) This past weekend 6/12/16 there was someone that looked, sounded like, and was the same height as my old best friends dad he looked like his twin and funny enough they knew each other.

ReplyDelete1. Captain Wilkie was their captain but he was different because he would help everyone but not be as rough or tough with the soldiers. That’s why everyone loved him the only thing is he went across the trenches with the soldiers, and got shot in the legs so he had to go home.
2. Yes and no, yes because the new soldiers get the trenches where there is not as much action but for the other soldiers in the area with lots of action it isn’t going as well. I think the soldiers are glad to not have as much action and lots of attacks but when they have an attack its always a big attack with mustard gas and shelling and thousands of Germans so that’s why I said yes and no.
3. Some of the problems were that there was lots of water that got in the trench so it made everything wet so if the soldiers were in there long enough they could eventually get trench foot which causes the foot to rot and they might have to amputate the foot. Another reason is that the Germans are throwing lots of poisonous gas like mustard gas. One more reason is with all the dead bodies that have not been killed in no mans’ land but in the trenches the trenches are getting filled up so it’s hard to fit more soldiers in the trench.
4. I once met an older woman that reminded me of my grandma on both my dad and moms side of the family she was shorter with white hair. She told me about when her husband who I believe pasted away had gone to World War II. She also said that her husband was one of a couple men and how they got a certificate from the government for protecting their country but then the government decided to throw away every copy but she kept her husbands and she is one of the only people to have the certificate I thought that was amazing and she let me look at the certificate. She remind me of my grandmas because she was kind funny and told super cool stories I loved listening to her I haven’t seen her since but I think that if I could meet her again I would definitely want to. Her stories about how she kept the certificate and how her husband was one of the only men to get one was very interesting. Another she reminded me of my grandmas was because they have amazing stories they tell me as well.

1. Captain Wilkie is the Captain that everyone cared about. When they attacked the Germens, the Germens saw them, that started a battle and Captain Wilkie got shot and he couldn’t move his legs, so Charley carried him back to the trenches’. Captain Wilkie is different from Sergeant Hanley because he is way nicer.
ReplyDelete2. The war is not going so well because they have lost half of their group and they just had toxic gas thorn at them and lots of them breathed it in.
3. The problems with the trenches are they could get trench foot that is when you have bine in the trench to long and the trenches are filled with water your foot or feet will start to rot, another reason is the toxic gas will go in the trench it will not go over and if you breath it in you will die.

3. Mud, wetness, gas and lice.
4. I am friends with a girl named Maddie and another girl named Holly and not only do they look like twins but both of their favorite colors are blue and also their favorite animal is a monkey but they have never met in their life. Katie Hildebrandt
1. Captain Wilkie was Tommos group leader when they went to capture a german soldier. Captain Wilkie is much nicer than sergeant Hanley.

1.) Captain Wilkie is the first Captain they had at the front lines, he was very nice and humorous and he and Charlie got along very well. But unfortunately he got shot in the legs while they were trying to get a German prisoner, Charlie carried Captain Wilkie back to camp and promised to visit him in the hospital. Captain Wilkie is different for Sergeant Hanley because Hanley is almost the complete opposite of Captain Wilkie, Sergeant Hanley is rude, cruel and harsh, he doesn’t let the soldiers do what they wish or have any comfort during the day and some of the night. To be clear Captain Wilkie is a far better Captain to have than “Horrible Hanley”.
ReplyDelete2.) The war isn’t going too well for the soldiers and I know this because in the book Pete said that Charlie should be ashamed of himself for telling his and Tommo’s family that the war is going well back in Belgium, also from what the book is telling us the war is staying the same place no one is winning or losing there for the war isn’t going to well from what the book is telling us.
3.) The problems were that there was water pilling up in the bottom of the trenches so then people would get trench foot because they are staying in the trenches almost all day for sometimes up to 3 weeks straight. There was also the problem that people would get into arguments because when people are all the same space for a long period of time they are bound to get frustrated with certain people or just because the circumstances are rough.
4.) The time when someone reminded me of someone else was when I was with my cousins Ben (13) and Bridget (12) that I don’t get to see very often because they live in Edmonton. And we were at my grandparents’ house down by Westwood lake and Ben, Bridget, Ayden and I were down by the water at around 7:30pm and we were playing pass and Ben threw it into the water so I had to go and get it then Ben decided to start throwing the soaking wet ball at me after I just got out of the water and at that point he reminded me of Ally. Ally is my friend that I’ve known ever since I moved here, me and her have a very strong bond so we are quite harsh to each other and if Ally was in Bens potion at that time she would have done the exact same thing, Ally and I aren’t harsh to each other in a bad way we are harsh to each other in a good and funny way.

1. Captain Wilkie is a person who teaches the soldiers he taught Tommy, Charlie, and the other soldiers that were with Charley and Tommy. He is different because Sergeant Hanley works them ten times as hard as Captain Wilkie does and Sergeant Hanley is ruder in some ways than Captain Wilkie.

4. The person that I saw one time reminded me of my grandparents because they were in India and I saw a little kid fell down and got hurt and her grandparents were helping her up just like my grandparents did with me when I was little and fell down at the same park, and that reminded me of my grandparents that time.

1. Captain Wilkie is the first captain Charlie and Tommo ever had. When he Tommo, Charlie and some other people went to the Germen trenches to capture an enemy solder to take back to their base Handley was shot by a German in his leg and Charlie had to carry him all the way back. When they got there Handley gave Charlie a watch to have and said to come visit him in hospital. He is different from Sergeant Handley because he treats the solders with respect.
ReplyDelete2. I do not think the war is going well for the solders because so many men are dyeing and getting badly injured every day for no reason.

1) Captain Wilkie is kinder than Sergeant Hanley and doesn’t yell at them as much.
ReplyDelete2) Yes and no. The war is going well I because they are killing a lot of other soldiers and no because the other team is killing a lot of them.

1. Captain Wilkes (or Wilkin?) is Tommo’s camp’s leader filling in for Sergeant Hanley. (Until his eventual dea….AAAAA I SAID NOTHING.) Captain “Wilkie” was different from Sergeant Hanley because he’s more “fun” than “Horrible Hanley”, he was less mean, treated his soldiers with respect, he isn’t a pipsqueak, and he didn’t bellow and bark and yell orders at them like Horrible Hanley does and he doesn’t make them feel like sacks of trash like Hanley also does.
ReplyDelete2. Oh, ho ho. Riiiiiight. The COLD, BLOODY, BRUTAL WAR is going just peachy! What do you think? They’re playing cards (maybe war) in a Jacuzzi with fine music from “Spotify”? Ha, ha, ha. For them, it feels horrible with the instant attacks, the “mustard bombs” (gas tanks), the constant worry of dying and having to see their friends die, gas, more gas (from Hanley), and a lot more things but the actual war is... hmm, I don’t really know for sure. Sure, the British are getting overpowered by the Germans with their huge weapons and better tactics but they aren’t having as much fun as the British are! ... Yeah, they’ve been having a rough time lately. I know this because somewhere in the book Charlie said “I didn’t tell them about the war because I didn’t want them to know about what we’ve been through.” or something similar like that.
3. Some problem in the trenches were the rats, the weird and traumatizing smell of gunpowder, you had to live there for weeks, you were easy targets for gas, bombs and shells, if you stuck your head out, you’d easily die, it’s wet, tons and tons of mud.
4. My friend Owen reminds me of a clown because he’s just so… goofy in a good way. He also reminds me of Maui from “Moana” because he’s silly in a way, fun, but also serious. Plus he’s the descendant of a god so in other words, it means he’s a legend.

ReplyDelete1. Captain Wilkie was Charlie and Tommo’s old captain. Wilkie the captain is different from Sergeant Hanley because Wilkie is more respectful, kind and generous to all the solders.
2. The war is not going great for the solders because many are getting killed, injured or suffering from terrible diseases such as Trench foot lice was also an issue.
3. The problems in the trenches there many rats and lice. Mud and water fills up the bottom of the trenches which can give the solders trench foot because they have been standing in the same muddy water for very long periods of time. Trench foot can get so bad they have to cut off there foot or feet.
