Markus

Here are some facts we know from When You Reach Me:

  • The notes from the Laughing Man suggest Sal will die unless he saves him.
  • Markus notices that Laughing Man always avoids him, running away quickly.
  • Markus punched Sal because of something his brother said.
In your opinion:

  1. How does the Laughing Man know that Sal will die unless he saves him?
  2. Why does Markus make the choice to come back and save Sal even though Markus sees the Laughing Man die?
  3. Would you change any of the choices that Markus/The Laughing Man made and how would this affect the story?
  4. Given that you know Markus comes back to save Sal, how would you describe his personality and character?

Do all questions in Microsoft Word and check it with WORD TALK. Use all your COPS skills and include as many openers as you need to make your answers as interesting to read and as descriptive as possible.

Miranda carries around a battered book that she has probably read a hundred times.

  • Do you have books that you like to read over and over?
  • What is the best book you have ever read?
  • Why has the author included Markus in the plot?  Why do you think he punched Sal?
  • We have learned a lot about Miranda’s mother. Would she make a good mother? What little details tell us so much about her?

And to have all my words lying out in the open, complete strangers able to walk by and see everything that mattered to me, without even knowing my name.” Imagine you were Jason. How would you feel?

BLOGGING RULES

Division 5: A blog is short for web log or online journal. A blog is public domain. What that means is that anyone with an internet connection can read what you write. They can also respond to what you write. Because of this, there are some rules you must obey for safety and for etiquette. I will read this blog daily to check that all rules are being followed.
For Safety:
  1. Keep your, and other people's, personal details private. Never offer any personal information including your last name, contact information, home address, phone numbers, school's name, e-mail address, last names of friends or relatives, instant messaging names, age, or birth date.
  2. Assume what you publish on the Web is permanent. Anyone on the Internet can easily print out a blog or save it to a computer.
  3. No one wants or needs to know private details about your family life.
  4. No photographs of yourself or others should be posted unless they are group shot, without names, and you have cleared the photo with me first.
For Etiquette:
  1. ALL your posts should be positive, friendly and inoffensive; don't use them for slander or to attack others. That includes gossip. No gossip or negative posts about any other individuals, whether they are in our community or not. Remember, as soon as you post something it's hard to take it back!
  2. Avoid trying to "outdo" or compete with other bloggers; concentrate on your own ideas.
  3. Don't write in UPPER CASE: it is seen as shouting.
  4. No innapropriate words, phrases or pictures are to be posted. Keep your language appropriate, clean and free of any rudeness.
  5. Sign all your posts with only your first-name.
Above all: have fun!
Mr. N
